I dropped by the local Audiobahn shop the other day (Linky) to check out possible upgrades to the sounds system in my '06 R...

Now Audiobahn is possibly one of the best companies out there, and instead of looking at all the cool sets they had, I got a sort of scolding for my unjustified request for an upgrade! "Your sound system is so beautiful, why the hell do you want to change it?!"

This is probably the first time I own a car that comes with a sound system to be proud of... Well, except for a 2005 Caddy STS that I had before the R :P

There is one company you can look at and it go far past anything you have probably heard (and far past any price you want to pay) but look for focal utopia speakers and if you can get your hands on a utopia sub (i got the last on my audio guy had before focal stopped making them). if you can find a utopia sub used your looking at 800usd and the speaker sets are around 600-800usd new depending on what you are looking for. but from all the audio i have heard nothing beats Focal IMO.

I mentioned once or twice that the R audio wasnt, IMO, as good as the C70T5 - I had vibration from the passenger door when playing doof music. The service dept took the skin off the door and found that it had been vibrating against the sub (I think) speaker. Much improved, although the clarity (with pro logic engaged) is still a touch short on what I hoped for.

The worst for me is the little plastic card holder thingy that's attached to the left side of the windshield; that is one noisy little b@stard!

With the sound cranked up, it starts contributing to the music with its own vibrations in tandem with the bass!

Otherwise, like you said, with Pro Logic on it's very good, and I didn't really need (so far, anyway) to go all out with the volume... No complaints here ;)

I've just recently bought an '07 S60R (upgrade from my '01 2.4T) and the plastic clip is gone. Wasn't much use anyway...

Seems a strange mid-year design choice, after it's been a staple on the S60 since inception. I don't miss it, but still seems strange...
