Over here, volvos are a prestige car so we tend to get the optioned up models (eg, the list on my R was $110K retail, around $80K US, the s80 is around $100K, new C70T5 is over $80K, my wife's s40T5 was $60K). A C30R would probably be well over $60K - a lot of money for a hot hatch. I'd love to drive one for a weekend, but I couldnt see much of a market for them here.

No, I wouldnt. It just doesnt appeal to me.

Now an XC90R or a C70R with a manual, I could deff see myself in!!

OK, the gossip that I get from friends in the know is that there are some reservations about the C70 roof (the metal sheets miss each other by a few mm, and could get messy if they are not perfectly aligned) but the C30 is absolutely magic. After the trouble that I have had with the s40T5 (niggly issues, some continuing) I wouldnt look at either seriously (if I WAS interested) until they had been on the road for at least 12 months.

I agree 100%. I would never buy the first year a new model was introduced (of any car).

That was advice my dad had given me years ago, and I ignored it because I fell in love with the new s40 shape and bought one within weeks of them hitting the showroom (actually I hadnt seen or driven a T5 until I picked it up, but then again I hadnt seen or driven an R until I picked mine up). The s40 has been recalled for one issue, and been back for a number of warranty matters. My dad was right!

Wouldn't - don't like hatchbacks at all. Might have to do with VW Golf being one of the most sold cars here and thus being tired of the concept at all. Anyway, the C30 is a nice approach.

Love the C30R, but not for that price.
