The icy conditions in England have exposed a problem with my S60R, there is no power going to the back wheels. Everyone is telling me that it is probably the angle gear which is notoriously week on early models.
Is it true that there is an AWD fuse on these cars in the back? I know it is a long shot but how great would it be if that were the problem : )

I believe there is a coupling which goes bad at the angle gear which gives you onlyfront wheel drive

The angle gear is what controls the power to the rear, these do not have viscous couplings.
It could be a broken angle gear ($$$$)
It could be a failed or dirty pressure sensor ($)
or it could be a broken collar gear, this is the gear between the transmission and the angle gear ($$$$$$$)

If the angle gear is broken, would it make a noise?
Would a dirty pressure sensor bring up a fault code?
Broken collar, would that also make a noise?
I have had a lot of front wheel spin, I had the coupling checked today by Volvo, and they say its ok, theywill be looking at the electronic unit tomorrow when they plug it in to diagostics.
I will keep you all updated
